Chat is actually handled through the controller - so yes to that. It is possible to connect the mixamp to your tv and run output from it to the mixamp. But the mixamp has standard audio in jacks on the back of the unit as well - so you can direclty connect the audio jacks from the xbox to the mixamp. Although both options are not suggested. The optical out on the xbox is actually on the back of the cord - not the back of the xbox itself. Check the fat video cord thingy you use to connect to your tv. Chances are it has a little black square cover - thats your optical port. If you don't see one and purchase an a50 I would highly suggest buying a new cord with the optical out.

answer 2
Yes you can. The suggested audio input for the mixamp is TOSlink or optical audio - which would suggest you have a tv that supports surround sound receivers. Note that it is possible to have this and NOT have an HD tv - but it is unlikely. Anywho... The mixamp supports a standard audio (red, white plug). Keep in mind that if you choose this option you won't get dolby surround.

Question

Compatible with astro a40 wireless mixamp?

I currently own the a40 with wiress mixamp. Will the a50 headset work with the a40 wireless mixamp or is the a50 mixamp different from that of the a40 wireless mixamp? If they use the same mixamp, can I just purchase the a50 headset for less than $299?

Hello R0adkill66611,

Unfortunately, when you purchase a wireless product that uses a transmitter/receiver, the company you bought it from normally pairs the transmitter/receiver together.

Unlike the Astro A40 Audio System, where you can simply plug the QD into a Mix Amp and start playing.

To be honest, I also believe there was a slight software change, which renders the A40 wireless mixamp unusable with the new Astro A50 headset. I could be wrong, but I'm fairly certain that I'm right.

Hope I helped!

No, at least on most PCs, it has to be on to recharge it. However, you can buy (not from Astro) an USB Socket/outlet. This way, you could just plug the USB cable into it, and it will charge

The answer is maybe. It depends on your PC and what motherboard it's using. Some PC motherboards will still supply power to the USB ports when the PC is powered down (but not physically switched off of course). If your PC/Motherboard supports this, there will typically be an option in the BIOS settings to control this behaviour.

The mic swings up and out of the way. When you do that, you will mute the mic. If you don't want to mute it, just swing it lower and bend it closer to your face so you can still talk. As I don't use mine a lot, I swing it to the up position and I don't have any problems with it being in my line of sight. It is very flexible however.

Question

Does the headset work with the PC wirelessly?

I have the A40's at the moment and completely love them! I've been considering upgrading to the A50's lately. I mainly use the PC but also have a PS3 and Xbox 360 to use them with also. I know that I will be able to use the headset wirelessly with the consoles, but is there any way to use the headset wirelessly on the PC through bluetooth or any other option? Any help is much appreciated!! Thanks!

You can use the headset wirlessly by connecting the transmitter to the I/O port on the back of your PC through the optical out. The transmitter has two inputs, one USB and the other optical in. The optical in provides all the sound into the transmitter so it can be transmitted wirlessly to your headset. The USB is for power. I have the A40 and A50 and I love the A50. I can walk around the room and listen to a video playing on my PC and not be teathered to the PC with a cord.

The first charge takes approximately 5 hours, after that around 3 hours. Also, remember you can attached the charge cord and keep playing while charging the unit. I have done this several times. The unit will beep in you ear when the battery is getting low, so you will know it needs charging. Just plug it in and keep playing and leave it plugged in overnight, and you are ready to go the next time you want to use the headset.

Many of us are waiting. In the first half of this year, Astro said "later this year." While that was very general, I've not seen them be any more specific. While I hope Astro honors this commitment, frankly, I'm preparing myself for disappointment. I recommend you do the same. With no recent word from Astro and a matter of weeks left in the year I will be very pleasantly surprised if we see something soon, if ever.

Coming from my experience with the A30s I would say that they are probably up there in the market. Astros makes awesome headsets and I couldn't be happier with my A30s. Personally the price is a little high for these but that also is counting in that they are wireless only you may be better off buying A30s (if you don't mind the not completely over hear drum) or the A40s (have more of the same feel as these will) and getting them with the mixamp which will still be less then these are but will give you more options as to where you can use them. I use my A30s for xbox and PC chatting along with listening to my computer and Ipod when I'm on the road

For a gaming headset, yes I feel they are one, if not the best on the market. I lover the wireless feature and the pre-sets are nice also. Especially when you figure in that AstroGaming will be offering software to allow you to configure the pre-sets in the manner you want. I have tried several headsets and these have features that others don't. They are very comfortable and produce great sound, especially for games. If you are looking for headsets that are used strictly for Music listening, there are other headsets that are designed just for that purpose. However, if you are a gamer, you won't miss with the A50's.

That's a very difficult question to answer, as it is entirely subjective. However, many thinks so (I know I do!), and Astro has received numerous titles and prizes for their products. Not to mentioned that Astro is also partnered with MLG (Major League Gaming), so that should be a good enough testament for their quality.

Question

Won't work with xbox 360...

I plugged it all in, made sure it is linked up with the headset, and that the cord from the controller to the headest is in and the optical cable is from the mixamp to the xbox, but still audio is going through the hdmi to the tv and coming out of the TV speakers... the xbox is up to date with patches and so is the firmware of the astro headset and mixamp. The settings on xbox lack in details for me to say that the audio should just go through the optical toslink cable and not the hdmi. Don't know what to do and search all over the internet... I would like a phone number to talk to an employee. Would be easier.

From what I can tell is you may have a defective optical port and or cable. That or the Mix-Amp isn't starting properly. Since the Amp and its cables must be connected to the Xbox the console is sending power. If your consoles power block battery cable isn't receiving enough power then the headset may not be functioning properly. Try different set ups. My A50 has served me for a month strong to date and works with my Xbox.

Also what type of Xbox are you using? The cables being connected? I can maybe give more info if i can be informed. Also check you Xbox audio setting and set it to Dolby and then preferences for audio to only go thru headset. These sometimes affect audio routing.

To make it work you have to play around with the settings in the actual Xbox. I personally have a PS3 with HDMI also. answer 2
No, it is not.

The A50 base station can only communicate with one headset at a time, so if one headset is used in several locations you will have to drag its base station along and plug it into the other base station in a daisy chain configuration.

However, this should not be a problem if the headset is only intended for home theatre purposes, as the base station is relatively small. Two base-stations will not take up much space.

Ignore my previous answer, it was a misconception caused by lack of documentation. I've found out that it -is- actually possible to sync multiple headsets with one wireless mixamp, you only need to ensure that all other mixamps are turned off. As you turn each headset on they should then sync with the desired mixamp.

Question

Can i use the A50s with my phone?

I want to use the A50s with my phone too (only listening to music).
Whether i can use them with my phone or not will make me buy the A50s or the wired A40s.

You can hook up your phone in the back of the mixamp through the AUX port. Just use a 3.5mm to 3.5mm headphone cable and connect that into your phone's headset jack.

Hi Anonymous,

You can connect your iPhone to the A50's included transmitter to listen to audio such as music but it will not allow you to use the microphone on the A50 Wireless Headset to make calls.
