Replacement A40 Microphone

Dogs just love the soft and rubbery A40 mic for some reason. We don’t question these things, we just suggest purchasing them in packs of six.   Oh, and just a heads up. This mic is the A40 2011 Microphone that picks up your voice flawlessly, filters out the cheering fans and stays exactly where you place it.

You asked the right person! this happened to me recently too. This is an easy fix so don't worry. This is what you need to do:
Download A50 Firmware at http://www.astrogaming.com/firmware

Before you download it to your computer, plug your USB cable to you computer from your mix amp and make sure your mix amp is turned on. It's the same USB cable that connects to your XBOX or PS3 for power. Even though it says the firmware is for A50 series Astro's, it will work for A40's. Download, Open File and follow the steps to upload the firmware into your Mix Amp.

If this does not work. Open a case on the Astro website for a warranty replacement. It may take a few days for them to respond but they have no problem replacing your microphone. You have a 1 year warranty with any Astro Headset.

Question

What is the problem and how do I find it?

OK. so currently, I am using an external microphone because the mic on my A40's is broken. My problem is that the mic does not pick up any sounds at all. I have switched the sides of the headset and plugged the headset into my 3.5mm audio jack on my computer as well as an iPhone. none of these work. so my question is: Is it definitely my microphone boom that is broken? or is it the quick switch where the "mute" switch is? thanks :)

In short, yes it could but just look for a replacement A30 mic. If you where to plug it into the A30 the mic would point straight back up to the top of your head.

Can you remove the fault mic on your pre 2011 headset? If so, the plug for this should be the same. Idk why it wouldn't be.

Question

My mic quality is horrible, my friends complain about it.

I have tried so many trouble shooting solutions and nothing has worked, allow me to list what I have done to better get some help!

1. Unplugged and plugged in.

2. Switched mic from left to right.

3. Checked every cord to make sure it was in firm.

4. Tried multiple USB ports.

5. Tried different mumble servers.

My problem (from what it sounds like when I record myself thru mumble is that for no reason the mic goes crazy loud and the quality quickly drops, it is sad because everything else on this product (Astro A40 w/ Mixamp) is amazing.

Go to astrogaming.com/firmware to make sure you have updated your A40's to the correct and current version. It should fix the mic problem. :)

Did you download the firmware at astrogaming.com/firmware ? Try that or just buy a replacement A40 mic if nothing works. And make sure you didn't mute your mic.

Question

Mic crackling and won't pick up voice

After about two weeks, my a40 s started to crack,e when I would adjust the mic and then it won't pick up my voice. I have to keep it in an exact place for it to work and it is barely picking up my voice. Is it a problem with my mic or is it a problem with the headset?
